What is it?
Akwaaba Gallery has quickly become an established gallery for the arts ecosystem in Newark and the surrounding area. Founded by Trinidad native Laura Bonas Palmer, the gallery is located in the Fairmont neighborhood of Newark’s West Ward.
Akwaaba Gallery is Newark’s lone Black-owned commercial gallery. Palmer’s prominent role as one of very few Black women gallery owners nationwide has solidified her commitment to sparking appreciation and investments in art from every level of society.
Akwaaba Gallery celebrates the diverse artistic talent and encourages contemporary art practices, creating a unique space that benefits artists and their audiences.
